ABOUT

Trey Hurst is a Bangkok-based artist working across painting, sculptural furniture, and objects. His practice centers on pattern-building through repetition—using simple gestures to create compositions that feel both structured and fluid.

Working primarily on raw canvas and handmade Saa paper, Hurst develops surfaces through layered brushwork, allowing rhythm and variation to emerge over time. His work often sits between abstraction and figuration, where forms appear, dissolve, and reconfigure—echoing the way memory shifts and reorganizes itself.

Across his paintings and objects, Hurst explores two parallel ideas: Memory and Place, where complex patterns reflect lived experience, and Material and Process, where the act of making becomes a meditative system. Repetition is not only a visual language in his work, but also a method for arriving at calm, balance, and clarity.

In recent years, his practice has expanded into sculptural furniture and spatial installations. These works extend the logic of his paintings into physical form—creating objects and environments that invite stillness, contemplation, and a heightened awareness of the body in space.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Hurst is currently based in Bangkok, Thailand, where he maintains an active studio and exhibits both locally and internationally.

Hurst has presented multiple solo exhibitions internationally, with recent presentations in Bangkok, Los Angeles, and Paris.
